Glebe Farm development plans

The Glebe Farm site is bounded by Bishop's Road, Hauxton Road, Shelford Road and the new Addenbrooke's Access Road. The 9 ha site is part of a larger farm that was allocated to the local church at the time of the enclosure award in the early 19th century (Vicarage or Glebe Farm).

An outline planning application was submitted to the City Council in March 2008, amended in August 2008 and approved in October 2008. The full application was submitted in December 2009.
Countryside Properties has a Glebe Farm Web site with details about the original proposals and the amendments.

The housing development will consist of 300 dwellings. There will be one road access to the site, from the southern side where the Addenbrooke's Access Road will run between Hauxton Road and Shelford Road. There will be a main route around the site, with residential developments and green areas. The overall development will be made up of 70% houses and 30% apartments, with an emphasis on affordable housing.

Response by the Trumpington Residents' Association

The Association's
response to the initial application was that it was a well designed use the site and its environment (April 2008). The strengths included the layout of the development and the way it complemented Trumpington Meadows in providing a new entrance into the city; the proposed mix of houses and apartments and the emphasis on affordable housing; the applicant’s commitment to sustainable design principles; the provision of landscaping, open spaces and play areas, particularly the open space at the centre of the site; and the closeness of the site to the public transport facilities at the Park & Ride site. The Association was concerned about a number of issues, many of which have been resolved in the amended application. The Association has submitted a further response to the amended application (September 2008) and the full application (January 2010)..

Waste strategy

The plans for Glebe Farm have been complicated by an area to the south of the site being proposed as a recycling centre. Cambridgeshire County Council is developing a Minerals and Waste Scheme. The overall plan has now been put to further public consultation, with the final plan to be adopted in 2010.

State of the development

The photographs show the area before any major changes. The first stage of the
Addenbrooke's Access Road is currently being constructed across the southern part of the site. New reports and images will be added when work is underway.
